Donna Faye (Stamper) Dawe passed away suddenly on February 4 at her home in Duncan, Canada. She was born deep in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky during World War II, the youngest of eight children in her family. After her birth in Hazard, Kentucky USA, she lived in nearby Buckhorn, Kentucky until the eighth grade. But in 1957, a great flood forced Donna and her sister Mary Ann out of their home. They moved to Ohio, where she would later become a proud graduate of Carlisle High School.
In 1975, Donna moved west to Saltspring Island, British Columbia. Several years later she relocated to the town of Duncan on picturesque Vancouver Island Canada. While Donna always loved her Kentucky and Ohio roots, she was quick to share the unique beauty of British Columbia with family and friends. She hosted anyone who wanted to travel to Canada and experience the flowers of Butchart Gardens, the rocky Pacific Ocean coast of Tofino or the incredible 'hometown atmosphere' that made the capital city of Victoria so special.
Donna was an active member of the community for many years. She was a business owner and was very involved in the Canadian tourism industry. Donna was a long standing member of the Rotary Club, where she was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for her contributions. She was passionate about the various activities the Rotary Club supported and she organized the annual speech competition.
But it was her deep love of sports that Donna seemed most passionate about each and every day of her life. She would regularly talk with Kevin and her grandchildren about all the different teams, players and coaches. She attended every game she could to watch her son and grandchildren play, driving them to ballfields and gymnasiums all over the island. She could recount every big play and always supported her home teams no matter what the score. Everyone she knew fondly remembers her stories of those basketball, baseball and field hockey games she attended.
Donna also volunteered countless hours with Cowichan Basketball where she was known to all the kids as "Grandma Kline." Kevin and her grandchildren were her life and she was so very proud of them. Donna touched the lives of many people and will be dearly missed.
Donna is survived by son Kevin (Leanne); grandsons: Steven, Ryan, Chris; and granddaughter Allie. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dan; parents Maude and George Stamper as well as her siblings: Fred, Ford, Bud, Frank, John and Polly Rose. Memorial Donations in Donna's memory may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Diabetic Association. There is no service planned at this time.
