1937-2020 ~ It is with a heavy heart that the family of Doreen Wheeldon announce that she passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 10th.
Doreen was born in England and emigrated to Toronto in 1961, after meeting Roy. They married in England in 1962, - a wonderful union that would last 55 years up to Roy's passing. Their retirement years were enjoyed in Mill Bay.
Doreen and Roy have three daughters Emma (Bruce), Moira, and Robyn (Jamie) who are honoured to call such an amazing woman Mum. The special relationship with each grandchild -Adam, Callam and Paige - was unique and cherished.
Doreen loved being active, she was very busy with her dragon boat racing, her clogging dancing, her curling, her own garden, and the Heather Garden Society. In her younger days she made many friends through the Home and School Association, tennis, and squash.
Doreen was truly a strong and remarkable woman. From her initial cancer diagnosis in 1982, anyone who knew her was in awe of how she managed to continue to fight her illness, never complaining, never wanting to be a burden or have anyone worry. Doreen was an inspiration to so many and will be remembered for her endless energy and incredible grace.
Doreen made wonderful friends everywhere she went. Her family is so grateful to her many friends that supported her over the years. We are especially thankful to the other cancer survivors, who we know were able to understand what she was going through and offer a support, in a way we never could.
While already we miss her dearly, we find peace in imagining she and Roy are together again.
With the world turned upside down due to COVID 19, we will not be having a celebration of life until we can once again gather. Until then, please remember her in your own way, remember all the happy times and we hope you will share these memories when we can get together to celebrate her life.
