Doris, a descendant of the pioneering Cobble Hill Dougan family, was born in San Bernardino, Cal. She graduated from Pacific Union College, Angwin, Cal., in 1961 and worked briefly in interior design before teaching elementary school in Napa, Cal., Portland, Ore and Battle Creek, Mich.
She moved to Maple Bay about 1992 to care for her mother and taught a further three years. She was a longtime, dedicated member of the Cowichan Historical and Cowichan Heritage
Societies, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
A memorial tea and interment in the Dougan family cemetery will be announced at a later date. Doris is survived by her sister Anne and numerous family members.
