Dorry Aitken passed away at Sunridge Place on September 28, 2022 at the age of 93 with family by her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband John (Prof) Aitken of 51 years in 2004.
Dorry grew up the eldest of six daughters on a small family farm in Heisler, Alberta during the depression. From her experience she learned to be hard working, thrifty, and a good cook of homemade meals. Dorry moved to Vancouver Island during the 1940s and settled in Shawnigan Lake where she met and married John Aitken in 1953. Together they proudly maintained their family home and raised their children. She is survived by her three children Robert (Alexis), Susan (Allan Stone), and Daniel (Nola). Dorry was a kind and loving mother and throughout her life she continued to lavish her love and support on them, as well as her seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Dorry was a talented artist passionate about her numerous hobbies and crafts. Over the years some of her interests included collecting antique bottles, making porcelain dolls, and painting birdhouses. She was an excellent potter and sewed many beautiful creations participating for years in local craft fairs and art shows. Dorry has left a legacy of beautiful pottery pieces and quilts to warm everyone.
In later years Dorry and Prof holidayed in Hawaii to escape the cold, winter weather. They always came home relaxed and tanned with a bag full of gifts for all the kids. They also traveled extensively in their motor home on Vancouver Island and trips to Alberta to visit family. Dorry loved walking the beaches and collecting treasures. After Prof's passing, Dorry moved to Oakcrest townhomes in Duncan where she made many new, kind friends.
Most of all Dorry loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. There will be a private family celebration of her life at a later date.
