September 28, 1947 - February 5, 2019
Born in Vancouver to Hall and Flora Mackenzie (nee Sigurdson), Doug moved to Duncan at six weeks and stayed ever since. Doug was predeceased by both parents and his sister Ann (Lisa and Madeline). Survived by Gail (nee Miller), son Graeme (Kerri, Owen and Ada), daughter Megan (David and Mackenzie), and brother Bruce (Sarah, Robyn and Carly).

Doug was an entrepreneur for life, from his 1955 Oldsmobile convertible (first rebuilt car) to sale of a 454 V-8 last month (his last marine parts sale). He had adventures in between, including an auto body shop, land development, boat building, computer programming, and a gold mine. Doug was a pilot who loved to fly, race cars with friends, and go boating with friends and family.

Doug survived a horrific car crash in 1988 that changed his life forever. He recovered and had joys after that time yet was still impacted by his acquired brain injury. Doug is now free of the pain and chaos of alcoholism.

Deep gratitude to Dr. Nadine Robertson for her unwavering care, and Island Health and the local health care system for all their services.

Service to be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road in Duncan with a celebration to follow at the home he built and loved. Condolences may be offered online at www.sandsduncan.ca.
