February 20, 1937 – January 14, 2017

It was with great sadness that the family of Elmer Bethune announce his passing on January 14, 2017 with his loving wife and son at his side. Elmer is survived by his wife Margo, son Dean and Ramona, grand-daughter Scarlet and husband Jordan and great grandson Emerson. Elmer will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Elmer was born in Kinuso, Alberta and lived most of his life in Wainwright and the city of Calgary, Alberta. Elmer was an honorary member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers having worked in the trade for more than fifty years. Many of those years were spent in Fort McMurray, Alberta working on various oil sand projects. Elmer retired and relocated to Vancouver Island in 2008. While he still had a fondness for the province of Alberta he didn’t seem to miss the cold winters! Elmer was tireless when he worked and was always ready to carry the heavy end of a load on any project he was involved with. This continued into his retirement as he tinkered in the garage and expanded on his new passion for fishing and boating. This was quite a challenge for a flatlander from Alberta! The family will be holding a celebration of life for Elmer at the Cowichan Lake District Seniors Association in Lake Cowichan, B.C. on Saturday May 6, 2017.
