Our beloved Dad/Opa passed away peacefully with his loving children by his side. Into the arms of his loving wife Hildegard (2009); his eldest son Hans Jurgen (Switzerland 2007) and his grandson Michael (2013).

Dad was born in Prussia, the youngest son of 11 children. His family then moved to Germany when he was a child. In 1942, he served in the German Army during WWII, where he was wounded then came home as a war veteran. Dad immigrated to Canada in 1951 to Pickle Crow, Ontario to work in a gold mine, his wife and 2 children followed a year later. In 1954, he and his family headed west to take a job at the MacMillian Bloedel Lumber Mill. Before settling in Chemainus, Dad rode his Norton motorcycle rain, snow or sunshine back and forth from Victoria to Chemainus daily for his job. Dad was a hard worker, he also had his own small business hauling and delivering coal and firewood in his earlier years. Dad worked as a lumber grader then studied and became a lumber inspector (PLIB) and he continued his career in the Lumber Industry until his retirement.

Dad loved life!! He was a loving, kind, generous, talented, versatile, hardworking father who could build or repair “almost” anything. He enjoyed being with his family, friends and dogs. He loved dressing sharp, music, dancing, entertaining, RV’ing and was very proud of his home and keeping his yard looking like a garden. Dad’s family bond helped us navigate through challenging and joyful times. We are very thankful Dad for your guidance and strong family ties. You leave us all with treasured memories and will be forever in our hearts. We know you are dancing with Mom and giving Molligan all the treats he wants!!

He leaves behind his children Peter (Judi), Renate (Carl), Marlena, Sigrid (Stephen) and David (Heidi); grandchildren David, Kristopher, Annelise, Christina and Eryn; great grandchild Nadja; nieces, nephews and his sister Annie. We would like to thank ALL the staff at Chemainus Health Care Centre for their care and kindness.
