December 21, 1922 - September 7, 2018
Our mother Fern Harriett Kirkby at 95 years passed on September 7, 2018 with her daughter by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Kirkby on September 16, 1995. Survived by her 4 children Lenwood (Bonnie) Kirkby, Warren (Laurie) Kirkby, Heather (John, deceased) Brennan and June (Carl) Smith; grandchildren Kimberly Ann, Bradley, Denyse, Karrie Ann, David, Katrina, Gordon and Mathew; and great-grandchildren Taylor-Jia, Liam, Mikayla, Rory, Brody, Hayden and Corbin.
Mum had an interesting life. She was born in Birchton, Quebec on a dairy farm and eventually moved to British Guiana, South America with her husband and 4 children. When our family settled back in Canada she bought a car and started working, because she wanted to more independent than most wives at that time.
She always said she had sand under her feet, meaning she loved to travel, and she did. Back and forth from Halifax to Vancouver Island for many years, laughing and smiling every mile of the way. She moved to Duncan in 2002. Her last move was in 2014 to the Meadows at Sunridge.
Mum was very happy at the Meadows at Sunridge. Their staff is unsurpassed in kindness and caring and her friends were fun loving.
