In loving memory ~
Frederick Wayne McLennan, fondly known as Fred or "Mexico Mac," passed away on May 20, 2025, at Nanaimo General Hospital at the age of 79. Born on May 17, 1946, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Fred lived a life rich with adventure, hard work, and deep connections.
Fred was predeceased by his sister Avaleen McIntosh, his parents Angus and Evelyn, his sister-in-law Lorna McLennan, his brother-in-law Dave Hatton, his in-laws Gordon and Lila Hatton, and his sons-in-law Tony Galavan and Steve St. Cyr. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Judy McLennan (Hatton), who stood by his side through life's journeys. He will be lovingly remembered by Connie Galavan, Paul McLennan (Linda), as well as his four grandchildren and one great-grandson. His brothers Ray and Winston McLennan (Betty), sister Judith Jancowski, and numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
Fred built a fulfilling career and a life rooted in exploration and craftsmanship. From working in Duncan at Kelvin Creek Ranch and Honeymoon Bay Mill to repairing TVs at Duncan Radio & Electronics and Key Furniture, his skill and ingenuity shone through. He was an entrepreneur, founding Raecom Electronics and FM Communication, and later, he worked on boats at Cove Yachts. His passion for the water led him to own and live aboard his beloved 45-foot sailboat, ABDI, for 39 years.
A traveler at heart, Fred found joy in exploring Mexico, a place that became a second home to him. His enthusiasm for discovery extended to his hobby, where he created and maintained the website www.costalegre.ca, sharing his love for the region with others. Through all of his adventures, Fred remained a calm, easygoing presence, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Special thanks go to the dedicated staff at Cardiac Care at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Nanaimo General Hospital, and Palliative Care for their compassionate support. Fred's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched in both Canada and Mexico. More adventures to share in the new system.
He will be deeply missed.
