June 5, 1960 – May 12, 2017
Gayathri (Gaya) Laflamme passed away on the morning of Friday, May 12th at the age of 56, after a long battle with cancer. For the past 5 years she held the position of Human Resources Director at the Municipality of North Cowichan, which she enjoyed immensely. Over her decades of employment she helped multiple hundreds of people find and retain jobs and happiness. Gaya was a warm, funny and passionate woman who was well loved by everyone who got to know her. She championed animal rights, and she adored her dogs Angel and Monty who still await her return. She is now reunited with her beloved Maltese Aurora. Her cooking was very popular, she loved hosting meals, teaching others, and was often found taking in every detail of the food network. Travelling was of great interest to Gaya, and she especially enjoyed a good margarita. Her smile will never be forgotten. She was a source of light for her family and friends and our world is darker for having lost her. A memorial service will be held in the St. Ann’s Garden Building at Providence Farm on Sunday, June 4th at 2:00 pm. As per her request, in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre, who helped her immensely, by visiting Gaya’s Fund Page (donate.bccancerfoundation.com/goto/Gaya).
