Gerrit Van de Graaf

Gerry was born in Papendrecht, Netherlands. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Maria, children Henk (Joyce), Maria (Mark), grandchildren Brian, Rebecca, Michael, Eli, Rachel, Jordan, Lisa, Bethany and greatgrandchildren Corbyn, Josh, Josie, Lily, Logan, Kolby, John, Ivy, Eddie and siblings Corrie, Henny and Dick and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Hendrik & Lena, siblings Wim, Tiny, Jan, Janna and beloved grandson Josh.
He was 6 when Germany invaded Holland, 12 when Holland was liberated. A sailor in the Dutch Navy at 18, married at 20, a father at 21. Immigrated to Canada (Hamilton, ON) at 24, settled in Duncan at 38 to work at the Crofton Mill. He passed away at 89 years and 8 days.
Gerry had a love of music and sang in choirs most of his adult life (Polyphonic Singers, Cowichan Consort Choir and Opus 1). He enjoyed gardening, the great outdoors and going on road trips. In his last days he was planning yet another trip.
We would like to thank Dr Ibrahim, the staff of the Hamlets and Cowichan District Hospital for dads care in his last year and days.

A memorial service will be held Friday October 14, 2022 11:00 am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 531 Herbert St. Duncan, BC
