May 31, 1930 - July 7, 2018
It is with Heavy Hearts and tears in our eyes we announce that on July 7th, 2018 at 3:09 pm surrounded by family, our beloved mother Gertrud (Trudi) Owen decided to unfurl her angel wings and fly off to join her departed husband Peter (2006), who was no doubt in a meeting somewhere in heaven.

Mom was generous, kind, gracious, diplomatic, with the utmost patience which served her well in life, particularly when dealing with her two younger sons.

Trudi was born and raised in Bern, Switzerland May 31, 1930, she moved to England at the age of 19 to learn English and work as an au pair girl that would be Nanny in English.

Married Peter and moved to BC in 1953. Son Robert (Marlene) was born a year later, followed by Linda (Nick) in 1955, Dave (Diane, forever) in 1956, last and we are certain a mistake Paul (Dana, so far so good) in 1960.

Settled in Mill Bay, after roughly five years in Dawson Creek. After all the kids had finished school and left the house or had been kicked out, Mom went back to school and earned a degree as a dental assistant, and worked in that field until retirement.

Among the many hobbies from gardening, to needle point, mom's favourite was quilting. Each of us and the grandchildren all received signed quilts. After 9/11, Trudi made a quilt of the New York Skyline and delivered it to one of the fire stations.

Unfortunately the last few years were not kind to Mom. Signs of dementia showed up about five years ago when she moved to Sherwood House in Duncan. Despite fabulous and very caring staff, mom became too much for them. We eventually found a place for Trudi in Sun Ridge Place, also in Duncan.

We cannot put into words our appreciation and respect for the care aids working with Mom. They showed so much love, were gentle and very patient. It was very reassuring to know Mom was well taken care of.

There will be a Graveside Service on Aug 4th, 2018 at 1:00 pm. St John's Anglican Church 3295 Cobble Hill Road Everyone is welcome, there will be food and drinks after the service.
