September 14, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Jill (Gillian) Reid, on September 14, 2018. Jill was born in Hong Kong on August 30, 1930. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon Reid (2006) and her parents Robert and Frida Dunlop.

She is survived by her daughter Jen, her son Rob, his wife Sandra, and her grandchildren Aaron and Isaac.

Mom's passion was gardening. She was formally trained as a horticulturalist at Studley College in England and she immigrated in to Canada in 1954. Mom started her gardening career in the Cowichan Valley and could often be found at Dinter's Nursery, which was her "happy hunting ground."

She moved to Victoria to work at Lakeview Nursery where she met her husband and raised her family. While in Victoria, Mom was an active member of the Victoria Horticultural Society where she worked with Doris Page, Emily Sartain and many friends and colleagues to present annual flower shows. Mom remained a source of knowledge for the Victoria gardening community for many years.

In the later years, Mom and Dad retired to Cowichan Bay where Mom continued to volunteer with gardening groups at Providence Farm, Cowichan Lodge and Cairnsmore Place.

Special thanks to the staff at Abbeyfield House in Duncan and to Dr. Reynolds and the amazing staff and care givers at Acacia Ty Mawr in Shawnigan Lake. To Dr. Dan Philippson - we thank you for your many years of caring for Mom's health and keeping "Walkie, walkie top side" in good humour.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Horticultural Society or the SPCA in recognition of the many dogs and cats who found a great home with Jill and Gordon.

There will be a celebration of life at the Cobble Hill Farmers' Institute Hall (Cobble Hill Hall) on September 30, 2018 from 1-3 pm.
