November 14, 2017
Glen McNie, (don't call him Norman!) also known as Grandpa, Papa G, and the Dad Guy, peacefully began his next hike on November 14th, 2017.

Glen was born and raised in the Comox Valley but after graduating from high school, made his way to Victoria to complete a degree in Social Work at UVic. It was in Victoria that he met and fell in love with his wife of 43 years, Leola. The two moved to Shawnigan Lake and quickly embraced the community.

An extraordinary man, that touched more lives than he realized, fought hard in recent years for Shawnigan Lake as a proud member of the Shawnigan Residents Association. He spent countless hours and early mornings protesting to 'save our lake.'

Glen is survived by his wife, Leola, daughters Emily (Clayton) and Camille (Codey), grandchildren Easton, Belle, and Cael, sister Gayle, nieces Heather and Christie, and nephew Ian.

Special thanks to Dr. Bass, Dr. Boan, Dr. Rauw, the nurses of CDH, the homecare nurses, Pieter, Rod, Scott, Greg, Pertti, Bill, John, Pete, Gary, Alastair, Jack, Steve, Jarrod, Pat S., Heidi, Theresa, Mimi, Ann L, Ann T, Gaye, Gaynor, Andrea, Roxanne, Herb, Ryan, Judy Hill, Sonia Furstenau, and the Sally Ann folks.

Thank you for the amazing support given to Leola and the girls, words cannot express how much it means.

We believe Glen is currently hiking on Flores Island, looking for treasures, or maybe he is in Kauai without us, because it would be cheaper that way ;).  Wherever he is, he will be missed by so many but never forgotten.

A gathering will take place on Saturday, December 9th at 1 pm at Providence Farm to share memories and stories of this incredible man.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Providence Farm.
