July 23, 1932 - July 29, 2020
Gloria Dolores Elvins (nee Cappellani) passed away peacefully at home in Duncan on July 29, 2020.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Roy, her children: Shirley (Mike) Vanderstap, Dale (Debbie) Elvins, Gregory Elvins, Bruce (Jill) Elvins, and Brenda (Doug) Lockhart; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and sister Brenda. Predeceased by her parents and ten brothers.
Gloria was born July 23, 1932 in the small town of Goudreau, Ontario to Americo and Olive Cappellani. She attended nursing school in Ottawa where she met and married Roy, and then moved to Duncan in 1960.
Coming from a large family and with five children of her own, Mom knew how to stretch a meal and loved cooking for the family, especially on special occasions. The heel of freshly baked loaves of bread were coveted and spread with butter when still warm.
She almost always had a pot of soup on the go and would feed anyone that was hungry. She took her cooking talent and used it at the Cowichan Basket Society where she volunteered to feed nourishing meals to the needy for several years. In later years she volunteered at St. John's Duncan where they served home cooked meals to their neighbours.
Mom enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spent hours in the kitchen canning fruits and vegetables from Dad's garden to enjoy throughout the year.
Mom and Dad loved their holidays down to their condo in Mexico and cruises to Alaska.
Although we miss her dearly, we know that she is in a happier place with the Lord and keeping busy trying to keep her brothers in line!
Due to the size limitations of gatherings, the service will be for family and invited guests only.
Many thanks to Dr. Tom Rimmer, the community home care and hospice workers, and caregivers Lydia and Deb.
We were honoured to be able to look after her in her home of 60 years and with that in mind we ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cowichan Hospice House Project.
