Gordon passed away peacefully and on his own terms after a lengthy recovery from a fractured hip and several complications that followed.
He was born in Nanaimo, growing up there and in Cumberland. He moved back to Nanaimo where he married Annie, eventually moving to Campbell River to drive bus and work toward getting his pilot's licence.
By his retirement at 60 years old he had flown for 5 different smaller airlines and 2 forest companies, amassing over 17,000 flying hours on 14 different types of aircraft and 62 individual airplanes. Although he tried other jobs such as driving truck, front end loader operator, cable TV lineman and domestic manager he always went back to his dream job of pilot.
After his retirement, Gordon and Annie moved to Parksville and finally to Duncan where they built their dream house on a large acreage.
Gordon never walked away from a challenge even though he was often told that life for him would never be normal due to a congenital spinal abnormality. He sure showed everyone what he was made of and that nothing would stop him. He embodied many admirable traits, and often, with few words, he expressed his perspective but by his acceptance of individuals they understood that they were friends for life.
He is survived by Annie, his wife of 73 years, sons Bruce and Michael (Beverly), and elder brother Hank. He will be missed every day. The family would like to thank Dr. Ibrahim, Dr. Kubatskyy, nurses and all the staff at CDH for their assistance in caring for Gordon.
