In loving memory ~

Gord passed away peacefully, with Samantha at his side. He had suffered a sudden, aggressive and inoperable cancer which treatment didn't contain. His last days were spent comfortably at Cowichan Hospice, days of quiet visits with Samantha, children, family and friends.

Gord was an amazing husband to Samantha, father to Madyson and Brianna, father figure to Jillisa, Jeremy & Josalyn Wolter and grandfather to six. From playhouses to horse barns, Gord built a beautiful life for his family and cared only about their happiness.

Gord was the beloved son of Lloyd and the late Jean Smith, brother to Coleen, Lynne (Greg), Steve (Brenda), Stan (Joan), Don (Diane) and Sue. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. His engaging smile and teasing jokes made him the centre of a wide group of friends. He would stop to say hi to pretty much the whole Cowichan Valley, because he knew everyone.

Gord was exposed to car racing in some form since he was a kid. From go-carts to Demo Derby, oval track Demo Racing, Hobby Stock and Stock, winning many titles and trophies at Western Speedway including the Canadian Demo Championship. In 2003 he tried the Sprint Car, loved it, and formed the Booga Boo Racing Team. Every car Gord raced was #47 and painted black.

Gord was a "jack of all trades" though his trade was a heavy-duty mechanic. He worked for several companies including Pacific Industrial Marine where he was treated so well by Brian Thacker.

He will be our hearts always.

Thank you to the Cowichan Hospice for the excellent care he received.

An afternoon to celebrate Gord's life is planned for July 5, noon to 4:00 pm. Just bring your stories to 6460 Highway 18 (New Lake Cowichan Rd).
