November 5, 1949 - September 10, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father Graham Percival Baird who passed away on September 10, 2020 at the Weyburn General Hospital in Saskatchewan.
Graham was born in Nakusp, BC on November 5, 1949 to parents Lillian May Baird (nee Talbot) and George Haslam Baird. They moved to Castlegar, BC where he met his future wife Terry and shortly thereafter moved to Youbou, BC where the young couple started their family.
Graham was a machinist by trade as well as a heavy duty equipment operator - skills that provided him the opportunity to work in a number of industries and at various job sites during his career including; Baird's Trucking in Youbou, the Powell River Pulp & Paper Mill, the Revelstoke Dam, the Revelstoke Mountain Ski Resort, the Forest Industry on Vancouver Island, and finally the Oil & Gas Industry in south-east Saskatchewan.
He and his family lived in the communities of Celista, BC, Scotch Creek, BC, Powell River, BC, Revelstoke, BC, Youbou, BC and then he and his wife Terry moved to Torquay, SK in 2008.
Graham was athletic in his youth - a skilled hockey player who played defence for the Lakers Senior A hockey team in the early '70s and an avid curler for over 40 years, playing in various leagues and attending many bonspiels during that time.
He coached juvenile and junior curlers in Lake Cowichan in the '80s - passing on his knowledge of the game to the local kids and his three daughters. He was also a competent downhill skier and enjoyed many days with his family racing down the slopes of the Revelstoke Mountain Ski Resort.
He was an intelligent, kind, quiet man who enjoyed his wife's good old fashioned home cooking, reading, watching sports on TV, and having long conversations with his daughters about their lives and careers.
Graham was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Terry, his parents George and May, and his brother George. He is survived by his daughters: Tricia (Ron) Mayea, Terra Baird and Riley Nicholson; grandchildren: Jordan Bates, Rylan Mayea, Mackenzie and Dawson Dobbie; his brothers, Doug Baird and Stephen Baird; numerous nieces and nephews; his pup Bailey and cat Fosbee.
