Born in Ayr Scotland. At age 21 Hughie emigrated to Canada with Adriel & baby Wendy. He has been a proud Canadian citizen ever since. Hughie had many titles throughout his life.

Husband - we were married for 53 years, he was my world & best friend

Dad - to Wendy, Robbie & Lori, Suzanne & Tamarra & (the girl that chose us) Michelle & Isaac

Grandad - to Jamie & Amanda, Jason & Hayley, David & Kendra. He loved being "Grandad"

Brother/brother-in-law - to Veronica & John, Helen & Gene; Georgie; Malcom & Lorraine

Uncle/cousin to many cousins, nieces & nephews in Canada and around the world. Hughie was such a big kid himself and enjoyed every moment spent with the little ones. Family meant everything to him.

Lifelong friend - to many special people. He cherished those friendships.

Co-worker - in the nuclear industry, wood industry and teacher at Cowichan High School. He loved teaching and each student became one of "his kids"

Coach - Hughie coached many community & high school teams in hockey & soccer.

Artist - when Hughie had to take early medical leave from teaching he returned to his passion for painting. Many family and friends are now proud owners of his artwork.

Traveller - He was so happy to travel and discover new places. He was grateful to have enjoyed his last trip in September with Malcolm & Lorraine to the South of France, Devon & Cornwall. From the age of 45 Hughie had many medical issues but we always lived life to the fullest.

"Every day is a good day"

Hughie was blessed to have incredible doctors and support people. We are so thankful to Dr. Roy Gilbert, Dr. Kinloch, Dr. Nadra, Dr. Val Masuda, all the wonderful home care nurses & to the caring compassionate team at Ingram Pharmacy.

Each & everyone enabled him to achieve some of his very special goals in the last few weeks.

Please join us for a get together Saturday, 21 July, 2018 between 2-4 pm at the Cowichan Golf Club.
