March 10, 1932 - December 16, 2024
Ian was born March 10, 1932 in Williams Lake, BC. Soon after, the family moved to Duncan as his father Allan found employment first at Hillcrest Lumber then Duncan Iron Works. His dad took Ian into the shop regularly introducing him to all things mechanical. This opened his eyes to what became Ian's future life-long employment as a well-respected and honest automotive technician.
Ian attended Duncan High School and graduated in 1950 as valedictorian.
Soon after high school, Ian married a local girl, Adele (Horrex) and they had three children: Gaye (Tim), Sandy (Maureen), Karen (Len), and four grandchildren: Cory, Lee, Jaclyn, Robin.
Ian's passions were coaching soccer, camping especially Long Beach and Buttle Lake, BBQing, and tinkering in the shop. He also loved Cowichan Valley history. He wrote and published 7 books on the subject.
After his first wife of 56 years (Adele) passed away, Ian found love again 4 years later. In 2013 he excitedly married again to Ann Dusseault who has four children: Lori, Sherry (Paul), Lynne (Dirk), Rob (Carin).
They accepted him with open arms including him in all their family events. But time stops for no one and memories begin to fail. Unfortunately, they were separated with Ann being placed in a full care facility first with Ian expected to follow soon.
Ian was a daily walker, and missed his wife way too much. After a few weeks his love for Ann sent him on a mission to find her. His failing memory caused him to go the wrong way. Six kilometers later, he tripped and took a bad fall. A nice lady found him and called 911. (Thank You!) He was taken to Duncan Hospital but at 92 years old he succumbed to his injury 6 days later. On December 16, 2024 Ian passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
