November 3, 1937 – March 27, 2019
Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed.
He is now reunited with his wife Ruby with whom he shared 53 years of love and life.
Left to mourn are his daughter Fonda and husband Bruce Boughey, son Rick and wife Gay, son Scott and wife Denise, daughter Lana and husband Bob Hilton. Also, grandchildren Kevin and Jace Hilton and Garnet and Sally Munro.
Ian was born in Birtle, MB to Alex and Alison Munro, an only and cherished child. There he worked for the Rural Municipality as a grader operator. He married Ruby in 1958 and they had four children in Birtle before moving to Cranbrook in 1971 where he worked as a Heavy duty mechanic for Pacific Terex and Finning.
They moved to Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island, BC in 1993 and he started an excavator business.
He also enjoyed working for Superior Excavating and Motherwell Logging running equipment such as cats and graders.
Dad cherished good friends and kind hearts and was always ready to help when needed. He was a true family man and he and Mom made a good life together for all of us. He was a “fix anything” kind of man.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching WW1 and WW2 videos, reading books and building and flying RC model planes.
In his retirement years he alternated between helping Scott and Denise in Westbank with their cylinder head business “Munro Cylinder Heads”and helping Fonda and Bruce on the farm, operating equipment and doing general farm maintenance.
His skills as a cat operator were showcased in the making of the first obstacle trail course for horses on Vancouver Island, which has been enjoyed by people from all over the Island.
We will miss his laughter, his beautiful smiling blue eyes and even his strong opinions. He had many!
Join us in a celebration of life May 25th 1 – 4 pm at Lana and Bob Hilton’s house, 5335 Miller Rd in Duncan.
