It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Sakaluk, our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Jack was 83 years of age. He will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life of 62 years, Pat.
He will also be dearly missed by his son, Dale Sakaluk (Martha) of Campbell River; daughter, Debbie Kokorudz of Cobble Hill; grandchildren: Brody, Samantha, Danica, Summer, Joshua; great grandchildren: Zayan, Axel, Nyla and Jaxson; best friend Marley; sister in law Jeanette and her family as well as by many special extended family and friends.
Jack was predeceased by his parents: Mary and John Sakaluk, brother Bill Sakaluk, sister Evelyn Hood, mother and father in law Kathleen and Jim, and brother in law Don.
Born in Drumheller, AB Jack received his education in Edmonton, AB. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Canadian Navy to start his first career with Radar Plotter, soon to change branches as a full time diver with Fleet Diving Unit Pacific until his first retirement in 1981. Jack's second career started in 1982, becoming Chief Hyperbaric Chamber Operator at Vancouver General Hospital and retiring there in 2002. He was always so grateful to have enjoyed two fulfilling careers while raising a family that he was so proud of.
He and Pat had several great holidays together and would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 20, 2022. Jack's best friend Marley will also miss sitting at the beach and his many golf cart rides. Jack has left us with wonderful memories and cherished smiles that will live on with his loving family and cherished friends until we all meet again.
The last few years of Jack's life journey were done with the help, kindness, and compassion of so many. There is everlasting gratitude to physicians, nurses, technicians, homecare, Veterans Affairs, as well as family and friends who have supported us; too many to mention for fear of omitting some. When Jack's journey here with us came to a close, our family was so grateful to have Troy, Ginette, and the staff of Sands Funeral Chapel close by our side at every moment we needed them. Their comfort and care meant so much as they walked us through one of the hardest days of our lives.
At Jack's request, there will be no service. If one wishes, memorial donations can be made to the Cowichan Hospice (www.cowichanhospice.org) or the BC SPCA.Rest peacefully. We love you. Till we meet again.
