John Montgomery

March 19, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of John Montgomery announces his passing on March 23, 2017 in Victoria, BC.  John is survived by his wife Yvonne, daughter Nicole, son Jason (Megan), brother Trevor (Joanne), sister Dale (Errol), sister-in-law Loretta (John) and sister-in-law Astrid (Dan).

John and Yvonne were married in 1973 and lived in the Lower Mainland until they moved to Shawnigan Lake in 1981 to raise their family. He was active in the community as a baseball and softball umpire, soccer referee, and coach to Jason’s soccer and baseball teams. One of his greatest joys was watching his children curl. Over the years he spent countless hours chauffeuring their teams around the province and watching them compete. He was well known for his inability to sit through a game, the bigger the game the more he paced.

In recent years, he spent many happy days on the family property at Watch Lake working on projects to improve the property and provide a comfortable home away from home for his family. Many happy times were spent with family, fishing and relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake.

John will be remembered for his quirky, often colourful sense of humour, generous spirit and devotion to his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cowichan Valley Hospice Society Hospice House Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Duncan Curling Club, 3191 Sherman Road, Duncan. Light refreshments will be served.
