In Loving Memory (1937-2023) ~

Saskatchewan farmer, Civil Engineer, and Vintner at Cherry Point Vineyards, Wayne Ulrich loved his life. Sadly, his journey ended on August 29 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 85.

The simplest pleasures of life brought great joy to Wayne. He loved reading, music, crosswords and especially spending time with family and friends sharing stories with a glass of wine in hand. He touched many lives with his generosity, and his warm personality and bright smile were contagious to anyone who met him.

Wayne also enjoyed skiing, and on a ski trip in 1984, he met Helena. It was love at first sight. Together, they shared a passion for entrepreneurship, so he retired as an Engineer, and purchased the Victoria Lampshade Shop. After 3 successful years, Wayne saw an opportunity to return to his farming roots when they purchased 34 acres in Cobble Hill.

His vision for the land was to grow grapes and start a winery, and in 1990, Cherry Point Farmgate Winery was established (one of the first licensed wineries on Vancouver Island).

Once retired, Wayne and Helena spent their winters travelling the world and summers enjoying cross-country trips in their motorhome.

Wayne was predeceased by his daughter Diane and survived by his wife, Helena; daughter, Karen; stepsons: Dale and George; stepdaughter, Leona, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn; and brother, Larry.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Wenzel-Smith for her care and compassion.
