Karl Fassnacht was born in Stuttgart, Germany on April 30, 1932.
After surviving WWII he studied horticulture and then immigrated to Vancouver Island as an 18 year old man. After a few years he became an employee at the Youbou sawmill where he worked for 36 years until retirement in 1992.
Karl and his wife Margarete married in Duncan on August 27, 1955 where they continued to reside for the next 58 years.
Karl was known to his loved ones as Schaetzle, Dad or Opa. Home and family was his life.
He began building the family house in 1958 where he and Margarete lived until 2013. He was a talented builder, gardener, landscaper.
The design (to which Margarete played a large role) and workmanship inside his own home and gardens was exquisite. He was musical, playing guitar and accordion in the Happy Wanderers band in the early years.
Known for his dry sense of humour, he could have the family laughing with a one word quip, or sometimes just a look that communicated his thought so perfectly.
Karl was devoted to Margarete and was a steadfast and loving Dad, Opa, great Opa, brother and uncle.
