“Her smile lives in our hearts.”

Born on August 20, 1920 and granted peace on December 10, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Wallace Bufton and Lawrence Fontaine. Those celebrating her life include daughter Audrey Bufton, son Bill (Debbie) Bufton, nieces Judi and Barb Stevenson (David Fisher), step-son Don (Diana) Fontaine; in-laws, Maury and Mary Jacob, the extended Fontaine family, cousins in the Ottawa Valley and across Western Canada, chosen family Connie and Huc, Rena, Geoff, Karen, Tolmie, Joseph and Ian and especially Mary Lynn. Predeceased by her parents George and Victoria Stevenson, brothers Cameron (Gerry) and George, in-laws Eleanor (Hughie) Macelduff, and best friend for over 80 years Mae Findlay. Before moving from Vancouver Island to Ottawa mom was surrounded by kindness at Sherwood House and Duncan United Church. Mom always tried to be helpful and was greatly inconvenience in the last years in Ottawa when she rapidly lost most of her sight and hearing. Still, she enjoyed many new acquaintances at Palisades. Special thanks to the many friends who helped with meds and meals and merriment: Helen, Sheila, Peggy, Wendy, Gillian, Nancy, Kathie, Linda and Diana. Thanks also to the many staff at Palisades who treated her respectfully like a unique individual, the Ottawa Public Library and CNIB for their talking books delivery services which helped provide many hours of “reading” pleasure. A kind, gentle and giving person, mom maintained long-term friendships from her childhood in Saskatchewan, jobs in Quebec, Regina, Saskatoon and retirement on Vancouver Island. A memorial tea will take place at Palisades (Villagia in the Glebe) with burial in Saskatoon in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please give to your favourite charity.
