November 17, 1936 – February 26, 2020
It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of our Dad, Louie Balogh (Lajos), on February 26th, after a brief illness at 83 years of age.
Louie was born and grew up in Teklafalu, Hungary on November 17, 1936. He enjoyed the family farm while getting his education
and working until he immigrated to Canada in 1956. After arriving in Canada, he moved to Lake Cowichan where he spent the rest of his days.
He worked in the logging industry within the Cowichan area until he retired in 2001.
Although he immigrated and became a citizen of Canada, he maintained close ties and responsibilities with his family in Hungary and visited there often. He loved to give back and built them a beautiful home in the late 80’s.
He had many interests including fishing, golfing, hockey, coaching and home improvements. He was a member of the legion for over 40 years. With the help of his lifelong friend Mike, back in the day they would volunteer their time to help seniors and veterans with roof and chimney repairs. Always looking forward to ‘mugs up’ at the end of the day. His greatest passion was his gardens and he raised hundreds of Mason Bees to pollinate his vegetables, flowers and his apple tree. He found incredible joy in watching the birds that visited his yard. He looked forward to his visits with family and friends under the apple tree.
Louie is predeceased by his parent’s Lajos and Eva, his brothers George Balogh (Gail) and Bela Balogh (Klara), and his first wife Annabel. He is survived by his sisters Margit Naszvadi (Janos), Eva Lukacs (Gyula) and his wife Maureen. His children John Balogh (Evelyn), Lorrianne Topf (Craig), Sherri Balogh and Steven Balogh. His grand-children Allin, Janine, Shannon, Jason, Jared, Sherri-Anne, Jordan, Jade, Bradley and Cameron, as well as, his great-grandchildren Ame and Oliver and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Upon his request, his ashes will be sent to Hungary where a service will be held. A small celebration of life will be held in Lake Cowichan in June with details to be announced.
