1937-2021 ~ Margaret, 84, of Victoria, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2021 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Marge was grateful to be able to bid a final farewell to her family and many friends at the end of her journey.
Marge was born to the late Sandy and Winnie French in Dallas, Scotland. She immigrated to Canada in 1949, spending her early years in Woodstock, Ontario.
A devoted mother, Marge raised her sons in Lloydminster, Alberta and later moved to Duncan, BC to care for her elderly parents.
It was there, in Maple Bay, that she found her dream home where she hosted fabulous holiday and social gatherings for nearly 40 years. During that time, Marge owned Near New Boutique in Nanaimo. She had a passion for fashion and a keen eye for a good bargain! She cherished the precious friendships that she cultivated over the 30 years in her store. Marge retired in Victoria in 2016.
Marge loved cards, board games and Bingo! Her social calendar was always full - meeting friends to play Bingo, playing poker at the Senior's Centre (she even got a Royal Flush!), and countless hours playing games with her family. She combined this with her love of travel - playing Bingo and Poker in Las Vegas; and her annual rendezvous with numerous friends in Hawaii.
Marge is survived by her sons Dino French (Rhonda) and Guy MacDonald (Myrna); granddaughter Madison MacDonald; brothers Bill French (Elaine), Jim French (Jean), and Glen French (Lizette); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marge was predeceased by her parents and her brother, George French.
Marge was cremated on September 3, 2021 in a private ceremony.
Our sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers at Victoria Hospice who helped care for her in her final days.
