She would be surprised and gratified to find herself in the obituaries at last - after years of checking for her name. She wanted a short obit, ‘just my name and the dates’ but since I’m the one who’s writing it...Mum was pre-deceased by her parents, of course, and by her siblings Dorothy and Syd, and by her beloved husband, Walter. She is survived by her daughter, me, Rebekah Edris and by her son-in-law, Robert. Our children, Jocelyn (David) and Nathan (Lee) were her mainstay. She relied on Nathan for so much - from fixing the TV to, well, just about everything. Tea at 2:30 at Nana’s was their thing.

But her great-grandson, Ajna (mother, Sarah) was the light of her life and their bond was insoluble.

She is also survived - what a word! by her son Raymond (Lisa) and their family, and by her grandsons, Chad (Megan) and his family, and Nick (Anna) and his family. She will be missed by Doug (Sarah) and her best friend Mary. Also missing her are her nieces and nephews - Margaret Ann, Grant, David, Brian, Leslie and Laurie and their families - but she will be missed most acutely by her childhood friend, my Auntie Edith.

I didn’t cry this much for my dad, because she was there to cry for me.

And I can hear her voice - ‘this cost you how much?’

Rest in peace, my Mum.
