It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our much-loved mom, Helen Lucas, who died peacefully, aged 89, at the Cowichan District Hospital. She is now reunited with her late husband, Howard. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her 10 children, Donna, Shirley (Paul), Charlene (Ron), Dennis (Laurie), Sylvia, Yvonne (Doug), James, Colleen (Brian), Judy (Gloria), and Tammy (John). She will be missed by her 22 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and her three great great grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, Anne, Fred, Mary, Charles, and Shirley. She is predeceased by her son-in-laws, Ken (Shirley) and Miki (Donna), and her siblings, Tracey, Marion, Rose, and Edith. Her famous “bear hugs” will be deeply missed by her family, relatives, and friends.

Helen was born on a farm near Fort Kent, Alberta. She was working at the John Neil Hospital in Cold Lake when she met Howard. After getting married in 1946, they farmed in the Grand Centre area. They moved to B.C. in 1979, owned a ranch near Kamloops and a hobby farm in Cobble Hill. After Howard’s death in 2010, she moved to Duncan.

A celebration of Helen’s life will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 2 p.m. at H.W. Wallace Burial Centre. The family appreciates the compassionate attention she received from Dr. Reynold’s over the years. They would also like to recognize the exceptional care she received from the wonderful staff at “2 West” in the Cowichan District Hospital. The family would also like to thank the staff from Harmony Healthcare for their support that allowed mom to continue to live in her own home. In memory of Helen, donations can be given to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
