March 12, 1934 - June 21, 2021
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret (Maggie) Gibson who entered into eternal life on
June 27, 2021 at Cowichan District Hospital.
Survived by her husband Ken Gibson of Ladysmith. Ken and Maggie were happily married for 64 years and greatly blessed with four supportive children: Veronica (Peter) Lukasch of Chemainus, Theresa (Gavin) Chester of Duncan, Judith (Rick) Weir of Chemainus, and Kenny (Kathy) Gibson of Victoria. Grandsons Thomas Lukasch, David (Jessica) and Derrick (Jessica) Sketchley, Taylor Gibson and four great granddaughters Payton, Athena, Isla, Abbigale and her brother Thomas (Flora) Skelly of Edinburgh, Scotland
Maggie was born on March 12, 1934 and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. After graduating from Holy Cross Academy in Edinburgh, Maggie went on to study all aspects of nursing first as an RN and then becoming a Midwife. Soon afterwards she met the love of her life Ken and they were married on February 23, 1957 and started their family.
With their four children they immigrated to Canada in 1964 finally settling on Vancouver Island in 1966. In her younger years Maggie was an enthusiastic athlete excelling in tennis and figure skating. Maggie also had a great love for music. A gifted and excellent pianist, Maggie received an award for her piano recital at the Edinburgh Usher Hall. Unfortunately in later years, arthritis precluded further concert performances.
Maggie became a member of the Eastern Star her Mother Chapter#44 of Duncan, soon afterwards she became a dedicated member of Sharon Chapter #4 of Ladysmith serving as Worthy Matron twice and in other Offices as required.
Maggie was also an active and passionate member of the CWL in Ladysmith. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Australia to visit relatives, cruises and yearly visits back to Scotland.
Maggie had an incredible sense of humour, a huge heart and was a friend to everyone. She loved laughter but above all else she loved her family. She will be forever missed by many.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the wonderful and incredible nursing staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre who made Maggie's short time there very comfortable and happy. We would also like to convey a very special thank you to the amazing nursing staff at the Cowichan District Hospital 3rd floor south for the exceptional, compassionate and outstanding care that they provided to Maggie in her last days.
We also take this opportunity to thank Dr. Forrest, Dr. Settler and Dr. Jacobs at the C.D.H. and to Dr. Archdeacon, Dr. Manhas, Dr. Morris and Dr. Broere of the Chemainus Hospital for their kindness and wonderful care to Maggie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 10th 2021 at 11:30 am in St. Mary's Church Hall 1135-4th Ave. in Ladysmith, B.C. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
