December 11, 1942 - January 3, 2022
Mum was born in the family home on Drinkwater Rd, in the Cowichan Valley. Her wonderful parents were George and Annie Bradshaw. She had two brothers, Charlie and Harry, and a sister Roseanne (Phil Whittaker).
Mum was married to James Allister Dougan in the early 1940's. They had a son, Larry (Frankie) in February of 1945. Jim was tragically killed in a logging accident in August of 1946.
She had a wonderful family to help her and was able to work for BC Tel as an operator and supervisor for 11 years. This enabled her to make a comfortable home for herself and Larry.
Mum met and married Robert (Bob) Cook in 1955, and together they had Glayne, Dale (Steph), and Judy (Doug) Thorarinson. There were many years of adventure with camping, skiing, baseball, hockey and general shenanigans.
Mum was there supporting us through thick and thin. As well as all of our friends too. There would always be a warm place to land in her kitchen. Mum's entire world revolved around her children, and grandchildren.
She was blessed with her grandchildren: Sherrie (Dougan), Jordie, Jackie (Taylor) Boorman, and Robert Cook/Christian. She could never be happier than when she was with these beautiful little kids. She loved them deeply. She was also able to meet her four great grandsons: Jackson and Eli Cook, Theo and Benjamin Boorman.
We can't forget to mention her beloved fur babies: Duchess, Tammy, Tye, Koha, Destiny, Blondie and Laila Boo. Mum and Boo have both decided to go together in this final journey. (I'm guessing mum has better treats than us.) She always spoiled them.
Mum spent the spare time that she had cultivating and growing the most beautiful gardens and yard. She had an incredible green thumb, and would work hard outside for hours, and it showed. Her other hobbies included golfing in the summer, and playing bridge with her golf buddies in the winter.
Besides being my best friend, she was also best friends with her sister Roseanne who played a major part in her life. They were constantly together, shopping and having great fun. We were all so lucky to have been so loved by Mum.
I believe that she and Boo are now at peace as they move on, and I will be forever lost until we meet again.
Mum leaves behind her nieces, nephews and their families with whom she cared fondly for. There will be a private family remembrance at a date yet to be determined. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Cairnsmore for their help and caring of Mum during her time there.
