Margaret Patterson died of cancer in the palliative care centre at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on December 19, 2017.

Born in 1941, she was the youngest of seven children who grew up on her parents' (Tom and Margit Nelson) farm near Vermillion Alberta. She traveled by horseback to her one room school, and in the evenings read by lamplight until her teenage years, when rural electrification was undertaken. A book-lover from the beginning, her favourite was Anne of Green Gables. She resolved to share her passion with other farm kids.

Margaret studied at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, became a teacher, and taught near Vermillion for two years. She went back to university, married Roger, and moved to Ontario where they had three sons, Thomas, Kevin and Michael.

After they moved to Manitoba she worked as a school librarian and guided generations of young readers toward their own favourite books.

After retiring and moving to Duncan, BC she enjoyed playing bridge, quilting, growing flower, travelling-and of course, reading.

She adored-and was adored by--her husband, sons, and grandchildren.

A celebration of her life is planned for 2:00 PM Jan. 20, 2018 at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club, 3515 Telegraph Road, Cobble Hill, BC, V0R 1L4.
