Maria Sidonia (née Groeneveld) Van de Graaf

Maria was born in Sleeuwijk, Netherlands. She is survived by her children Henk (Joyce) and Maria (Mark); grandchildren Brian, Rebecca, Michael, Eli, Rachel, Jordan, Lisa, Bethany; great-grandchildren Corbyn, Josh, Josie, Lily, Logan, Kolby, John, Ivy, Eddie; siblings Anneka and Wim; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by Gerrit, her husband of 68 years, her parents Pluenis and Maria, her sister Corrie, and beloved grandson Josh.
In 1957, Maria emigrated from the Netherlands in 1957 and settled in the Cowichan Valley in 1971.
Maria was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She loved nothing better than to be with her family and friends. She knit love into our family. Showing us how to love and bless each other, demonstrating to us the power of forgiveness. She liked to help those who were without. She spent much time in prayer with Jesus while she knitted, weaving her prayers into everything she made, creating marvellous prayer shawls. Shawls that gave comfort to the troubled.
We would like to thank Dr Ibrahim, the staff of The Hamlets, Cowichan District Hospital, and Cowichan Hospice for caring for mom and us during her last year and days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cowichan Valley Basket Society.
Memorial Service to be held at 11:00 a.m., February 17, 2023, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 531 Herbert St, Duncan B.C.
