September 7, 1922 - April 18, 2020
With heavy hearts we mourn the passing of Marjorie May Frumento on April 18, 2020. Predeceased by husband, Pete, son, John, and daughter Tana. She is survived by daughter, Robyn (Gilbey), sons Allen (June), Kelvin (Joan) and Darin (Sandi), and 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Marj's first job was as a telephone operator in the gold rush town of Zeballos in 1938-39. With her husband Pete in the service, the war years were spent in Esquimalt/Victoria.
The 50's found Marj dispatching airplanes for Pacific Western and BC Airlines in Tahsis. The radio phones were set up in her house and she was on the air everyday giving weather reports and managing air traffic. She loved that job and all the people that made up the bush flying fraternity. She was Campbell River's Welcome Wagon Lady through the 60's. Marj visited new arrivals to town and helped their families settle in through this programme sponsored by local businesses. She was also a member of the Campbell River Toast Mistress Club. During the 80's & 90's Marj was owner/operator of the Breakers Resort at Saratoga Beach.
Marj was an inspiration to many when at the tender age of 45, she got her driver's licence and completed her Grade 12. She was known for her poise and dignity. A visit with Marjorie May Frumento was always an enjoyable event with plenty of laughter and sometimes, a few tears. Her close knit family loved her dearly and admired her leadership. She was a great lady and we are all feeling the pain of her absence.
