Mary Ethel Neubauer of Duncan, passed away at Cerwydden Care Centre on July 1, 2018 at the age of 88 years. She was the loving mother of children: Ron (Nelly), Dale (Brenda), Karen (Michael), Linda (Jelmer), Byron (Jane), Eliesa (Ed), and Trina (Lou).
She will also be dearly missed by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty one great- grandchildren, as well as her extended family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband Ewald Neubauer (1987).
Mary was born in LeRoy, SK. She moved to BC to berry pick in Vancouver, and then a few years later moved to Duncan to work at the Duncan Hospital. She rented a room from Ewald and they fell in love and married on August 17, 1951. Mary and Ewald raised seven children, and eventually went back to work at the hospital until her retirement in 1994. Mary was an avid walker with the Heart in Motion Club, and was seen by many walking everywhere.
Mary was strong and endearing. She was loved by her children, grand-kids, and great-grandkids. She will be missed by all of us.
We would like to thank the staff at Cowichan District Hospital, Cairnsmore, and Cerwydden for taking care of Mom for the last 10 months. She especially loved her foot rubs and baths.
Memorial donations in Mary's honour may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www. heartandstroke.ca). A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Mountain View Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service which will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church (2704 James Street, Duncan).
