Early on August 20th, 2016 Mary-Jane slipped away very peacefully with family at her side. At 2 months short of her 94th birthday she had lived a full and active life that involved both physical and intellectual pursuits. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, kayaking and walking, she played bridge, carved wood, painted and sculpted. She read voraciously and she loved her jazz! Most of all she was a positive person who lived in the present and did not worry about the past. Her glass was half full and had bubbles in it. Mary-Jane always had a air for style even in her final days when breast cancer had claimed most of her vitality. She was predeceased by her husband Harry, her twin sister Amy and her brother Paul. She is survived by her children; Paul (Patty), Victoria, Chris (Debi) and Geo , grandchildren Emily and Evan (Liz), nieces and nephews Lee, Stuart, David and Heather Luxford. She described herself as “the last tree standing in the old growth forest” and will be sorely missed especially at family gatherings. A special thank-you to Drs Patricia Seymour, Valerie Masuda and Elaine Wai for their roles in Mary-Jane’s care as well as the staff at the BC Cancer Center Vancouver Island, the Chemotherapy Unit at Cowichan District Hospital and Duncan Home Care Nursing. All were so efficient in their work but pleasant and sensitive to the needs of Mary-Jane and the family. “Life is 10% what you make it & 90% how you take it.” Irving Berlin FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICES Duncan, B.C. 250-748-2134 Condolences may be shared online at: www.firstmemorialfuneral.com
