Mike McFee was born in McMinnville, Oregon and moved with his family to Quesnel in 1960. In 1966 he met Marilyn and they married 6 months later on Christmas Day.
Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating in BC's northern interior then started their family five years later. Mike was so proud of his three daughters. The family enjoyed many camping trips and canoeing around Prince George, lived in Oregon for a year where Mike commercial fished on his father's boat, then returned to Prince George.
In 1986 the family moved to Duncan, bought a boat and enjoyed many boating trips and fishing around Mill Bay and the San Juan Islands. Mike loved the ocean and the outdoors. In 1996 Mike and Marilyn discovered Gabriola Island and settled. Mike developed a liking for woodworking and could be found at various craft fairs around Gabriola and Duncan and in the summertime doing yard maintenance all over the island until dementia put a stop to any future plans.
He passed away at Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville. Sorely missed by his wife of 52 years, his daughters Trisha Heffernan (James), Tracy Todd (Darren), Trina Closson (Jason), his grandchildren Deanna Gulbranson, Curtis Godolphin, Tyler Heffernan, Holly Heffernan, Jaydon Closson, Tylon Closson, great granddaughter Aleah Godolphin, sister Maureen King and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Holly McFee in 1968 and father Floyd McFee in 1986.
Special thanks to the paramedics and firemen who assisted Mike many times throughout 2018 and the kind care from Dr. MacKenzie.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Duncan in the summer.
