May 22, 1954 - June 22, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Robert Malbon on June 22, 2021.
Neil was born in Duncan on May 22, 1954 at King Daughters Hospital to Robert and Marie Malbon. Predeceased by his mother, Marie Malbon and lovingly remembered by his father, Robert Malbon, his sister Kim Walters, brother- in-law Dan, brother Guy Malbon (Patsy), 6 nieces and nephews and 12 grand-nieces and nephews.
Neil adored his family and his precious cats, Tucker and Max and enjoyed getting together for family events. Neil quietly fought his courageous battle with cancer. He slipped peacefully into the arms of Mom on June 22nd.
In his youth, Neil was a paper boy, boy-scout, and naval cadet. Following his graduation from Victoria High in 1972, he moved to Victoria and began his lifelong public service career with the Province of B.C. He was incredibly proud of his 48 years of public service and received several meritorious awards at Government House.
We will miss his profound wit, deep belly laughs, political analysis, and his incredible ability to recite every detail of a book, song or movie. He enjoyed all forms of the arts and was a wonderful pianist. Neil was very proud of his First Nations heritage and being a descendant of Chief Capilano, Khaltinaht and Portuguese Joe. Neil proudly shared his ancestral roots at every opportunity. He was an avid reader and huge Star Wars fan. He enjoyed camping and loved to cook. Creating Chinese food for himself and others gave him great joy.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Adzich, Dr. Masuda, the nurses, and staff at Cowichan Community Health Services, BC Ambulance Services and Cowichan Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they gave as Neil faced his final challenges.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in "Neil's honour. "
