Niekolaas Hendricks Laninga died at the age of 79. Born in Groningen Netherlands Holland on Nov. 26, 1940. Son of Jakob and Anje Laninga, with four brothers and three sisters. Nick has four children with Esther Laninga, his two daughters Anita (Don Sabo), and Lisa (Pat Twohey), and his two sons (Calvin, and Darwin (Cherrie), eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
Predeceased by his loving wife Hilda Laninga whom passed away Oct. 14, 2015. They were married for 27 years. They made their home in Lake Cowichan for the past 18 years, and prior to that in Mill Bay.
Nick always made the best of his time being involved in many activities such as his reading time and love of music. He was a great musician playing organs, piano, and keyboard, even the harmonica, and accordion.
Nick did many correspondences courses where he received may different degrees. He was also involved in the Lions Club, the Gideon's, and Crime Stoppers, and I am sure he was involved in other organizations and forgive me if I had missed a few. Nick also was an accomplished salesman that won him many sales awards. Nick also inherited his family trade of being a clock smith. He became self employed and opened Mill Bay Clock which he ran for many years. His goal was to keep people on time.
Nick is in a much better place now where he joins his loving wife Hilda, his parents Jack and Anne Laninga, his sister Kathy, and his favourite Uncle John Dahaan, and Tanta Rule.
A grave side service for Nick was held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Hately Memorial Park in Colwood.
