Sep 7, 1927 - May 4, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Norma Simmonds who passed away at home on May 4, 2018.

Born in Nanaimo, the daughter of Harry and Jane Bennetts, Norma attended school in Chemainus, and then Ladysmith for her high school years. Norma worked in the offices of the old MacMillan Bloedel Chemainus sawmill office in her early years before marrying Harry. Norma and Harry resided on Willow Street for their entire married lives until their passings.

Norma was a home body who loved to be around her flowers and a variety of pets over the years, whether they be dogs, cats or budgies. Reading was a favourite pastime of Norma's. Norma was a kind and gentle person, with a great sense of humour. She loved her neighbors and was thankful for having great neighbors her whole lifetime. She was very contented in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Norma is survived by her sons: David Simmonds, Ken (Debbie nee Anderson); Simmonds; grandchildren: Lindsay (Angie) Ribeyre of Langley, and their children: Hailey and Alyssa Ribeyre; and Darian and Andrew Clark of Melbourne, Australia.

She is also survived by sister-in-law Thelma Simmonds, nephew Doug (Donna), and their children: Darla (Geoff) Kempthorne, Delaine (Mark) Stuart, and Darcie (Phil) Niedoba and their families.

Norma was predeceased by her husband Harry Simmonds in 2008. We would like to thank our caring neighbors for all of their support over the past few years, always keeping an eye out for her.  We'd also like to thank all of the personal and health care workers who helped to make Mom's life easier in the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Chemainus Cemetery.
