It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Opal at age 72.

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, Opal met and married military airman Lynn Rogers who whisked her off to raise their own family of three boys in locations including Lahr, Germany, Yellowknife, NWT and Trenton, Ontario. But it was Edmonton, Alberta where Opal grew her deepest roots and finally settled on an acreage in Tofield, Alberta, the small hobby farm provided a distraction from her busy nights dispatching a fleet of Edmonton based taxis.

Always a people person, she will be fondly remembered throughout the Tofield farmlands as the “Avon Lady”, her sales winning her regional awards for her efforts. Opal was loved and endeared by many, especially her good friend Carol and by the crowd at Mom’s Ice Cream Parlor. “Oh-Oh Opal!”.

Only after her health turned, Opal relocated to Duncan on Vancouver Island in 2013 to seek the comfort, care and familiarity of family. Opal easily made new friends at the Meadows, often engaging others with her twinkly blue eyes and sweet smile; her soprano voice at hymn sings always recognizable. She enjoyed the company and conversation with many residents over a Pepsi in front of the TV watching many an episode of COPS.

Opal suffered bravely through several chronic ailments for a long time, but for the tender care of her devoted sister Velma, her quality of life could not be better or prolonged.

Predeceased by her youngest, Frank, Opal leaves her sons Scot (daughter in law Glynis) and Kevin; granddaughters Kyla and Elisa; grandsons Jeremy, Chayne, Kyle and Dustin, great-grandsons Zackery and Brayden.

Our beloved Opal will finally return to Tofield to rest everlasting with her Lord.

Our grateful and humble thanks to Opal’s care team at Cowichan District Hospital cannot be overlooked. She was in good hands.

By request, no local service will be conducted. Donations in Opal’s memory may be made to the Canadian Kidney Foundation, 200-4940 Canada Way, Burnaby BC V5G 4K6: (tel) 1-800-567-8112
