June 12, 1926 - January 8, 2022
It is with sadness we announce the passing on January 8, 2022, of Pauline (Hastings) Douglas. Born in Comox BC on June 12, 1926, Pauline was one of four children.
Predeceased by her father, Ernie, her mother, Marie, her husband William "Wug" Douglas, brother Robert (Bob) and sisters Betty Masterman and Muriel Eaton, and nephews Brian Eaton and Jim Masterman, she looked forward to being reunited with her dear loved ones.
Auntie Pauline is survived by many, many nephews, nieces, great nieces, and great nephews spanning four generations.
The last of that generation, her stamina and endurance elicited a belief that she would outlive the next generation. Family visits brought a sparkle to her blue eyes and a giggle in her voice. You felt the love!
She would connect multi generational dots sharing stories. Her specialty was recounting hurts that befell her nephews and nieces growing up, it was salve for their souls. Was it any wonder she was a family fav!
Younger generations she embraced in her memory. She never failed to remember their names and show an interest in them. Eternally a Blue Jays fan, she sported a Blue Jays cap and jersey. As with all things she loved, she could rattle off names and stats of the Jays all time greats...she loved Joe Carter!
In her later years she lived in Ladysmith, then Kiwanis Village in Duncan before she moved into The Manor in Duncan. Perhaps you remember a feisty little woman wielding her walker speedily downtown! She loved hopping on the local bus and travelling the Cowichan Valley with her friendly bus drivers including Terry Royal and Lloyd.
In 2017 she moved into Cairnsmore Place fulltime. She spoke to all. Over the years, ones she had grown especially close to passed, sadly missed by her.
Bingo and the "Andy" sing-a-longs provided many happy hours. Thank you to all that make those bright spots happen!
The family would like to thank the staff at Cairnsmore Place for providing dignified care of her. Special thanks to Care Aid "Big" Ron, whom she flirted with relentlessly as well as Doctor Bass for his care.
Apologies if we failed to mention specifically others who made our Aunt comfortable. Please know all you did for her, the little things and the bigger jobs, the family deeply appreciates!
At an appropriate time, hopefully this summer, a donation on her behalf will be made to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation, our family will gather to celebrate her life and she will be laid to rest at Mountainview Cemetery in Duncan.
