In loving memory ~
After a four-year battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia, it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ray Mitchell at 82 years of age.
Predeceased by his mother, Agnes [Nancy] Mitchell, his father, Alfred [Slim] Mitchell, stepmother, Opal Mitchell, his first wife and mother of his children, Lynn Mitchell.
Ray leaves behind his two sons, Doug [Tina] and Dave [Derek], his granddaughter Cale, two grandsons, Weston and Blake, and his very dear friend Patricia Hagan.
Ray was born in Duncan, B.C. at Kings Daughters hospital and spent his early years with his Mom and Dad in logging camps on the island and along the coast of B.C. Following the death of his mother in 1950, Ray and his father continued to live in a camp at Cook Bay on Texada Island until they made their way back to Duncan, where they resided on Herd Road in the mid 50s.
It was here that he met his future wife, Lynn Skaife. While serving his machinist apprenticeship at Duncan Iron Works, he also acquired his prized 1937 Ford. Ray was very proud of his association with the Victoria Quarter Milers and he lifelong friendships that came along with the hot rodding/racing community.
Ray was one of the original partners in Promac Industries and worked with them until he purchased the Oyster River Resort in 1992. He operated the resort until his retirement in 2006.
Ray was an avid golfer, fisherman and racer. He had a great sense of humour and a vast repertoire of jokes. He leaves behind many great memories which can still bring a smile to those who knew him. Ray was very clear about not wanting a service.
RIP 37
