Ken was born in Lethbridge, AB on February 25, 1943 to parents Mabel Eichenlaub (nee Hammerand) and Reverend Valentine Eichenlaub. They moved to Nanaimo, BC in 1955 into the parsonage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Upon graduating from high school Ken attended Concordia University in Portland, OR from 1961 to 1963, Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN followed by Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO where he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity in 1969 which included the study of a number of classical languages. Ken became pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nanaimo where he served from 1971 to 1984, following in the footsteps of his father. Ken also attended Simon Fraser University, receiving his teaching certificate and working in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District, as well as at Queen Margaret's School in Duncan, BC, Mount Elizabeth Secondary School in Kitimat, BC, Chemainus Native College and as an ESL teacher in South Korea. Ken returned to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod ministry in 2000 taking a call to Langenburg, SK where he also served the communities of Landestrew and MacNutt until 2008 followed by the congregations of Inglis and Grandview in MB. Ken retired in 2016 and spent time in Toronto with his eldest daughter and family before moving to Duncan, BC in 2017 where he resided at Sherwood House until his death in 2019. An engaged, caring and eloquent pastor; loving, funny, stoic, intelligent and generous father and grandfather, and ardent New York Yankees fan, Ken will be forever loved and missed. Ken is predeceased by his parents, his brother Art Evans, and the mother of Ken's children, Joan Kareen Eichenlaub (Maczulat). Ken is survived by his brother Walter (Lorna) and families, daughters Naomi (Sandro) and Natasha (Chris) and son Nathan and grandchildren Fynn, Nick, Milo, Calum and Alistair.
Ken passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 18, 2019 in Duncan, BC in the arms of his son Nathan. A service will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 1 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nanaimo, BC at 394 Shepherd Avenue. A reception will follow at the same location.
