September 29, 1951 - November 16, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Archibald Sanderson, lovingly known as Archie, on November 16, 2024. Archie passed away peacefully at home in Duncan, BC, surrounded by his devoted wife, Debbie, and daughter, Becky. He was 73 years old.
Archie was born on September 29, 1951, in Ladysmith, to William and Julia Sanderson. A proud resident of Duncan, he worked as a driver examiner for 30 years before semi-retiring. He later joined the team at Island GM, where he worked for six more years, retiring fully last year.
Archie was passionate about golf and softball, spending countless happy hours on the greens and the ballfield. As a member of Duncan's softball community, he was instrumental in founding the Cody Classic, a tournament dedicated to supporting Cowichan Valley families with children battling cancer—a legacy of generosity and care he leaves behind.
On June 21, 1975, Archie married the love of his life, Debbie, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. They celebrated 49 beautiful years together and looked forward to their upcoming 50th anniversary next summer.
Archie was predeceased by his parents, William and Julia, his brothers Warren and Raymond, and his sister Susan. He is survived by his beloved wife Deborah, daughters Theresa and Rebecca (Dylan), and his grandchildren Tyler (Erika), Ryan (Katy), Logan, Noah, Hunter, Bentley, and MacKenzie, as well as great-grandchildren Violet, Olivia, Reese, and Emrick. He will also be deeply missed by his brother Jack (Marian), sister Babe, numerous nieces and nephews, and the extended Lawson family.
Archie touched countless lives with his warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in Archie's honor.
A celebration of Archie's life will be held at a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends.
