April 6, 1948 - February 12, 2025
In loving memory ~
Rob was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Iain and Irene Brown. He started construction as a young lad, building tree houses, on other people's properties! In 1968 he left his girlfriend, Charlotte, behind when he immigrated to Canada. He first worked in London, Ontario, then Vancouver, before moving to Tahsis. He returned to Scotland in 1970 to marry and bring his bride, Charlotte, to Tahsis where his children, Robin & Carmen, were born. Rob loved music and formed a band in Tahsis where he played on weekends. They settled there for 6 years before moving to Courtenay where he built his 1st house and then Mill Bay & Duncan.
Rob took pride in the near 40 homes he built in the Valley, plus the many renovations to homes and businesses. Tradesmen enjoyed following behind "Rob Brown Construction", because everything was always straight and level.
On weekends and evenings, Rob enjoyed watching his young children play soccer or cheering them on in track & field. He could always be heard on the sidelines with his loud cheers of "R.T.B." (Ready to Burn)! As the children grew, he enjoyed biking and camping on the Island & the nearby San Juan Islands. He continued to be dedicated to his adult children, raving about his fiercely independent daughter's accomplishments to anyone passing by, and fighting to ensure his son had the best life possible, including caring for him in their home. Later years were spent with his wife at the Brew Pub on Thursday nights, listening to "Eagle Eyes", or eating "Sticky Toffee Pudding" at the Lion Rampant. Rob leaves us all with fond memories of being a dedicated, loving, proud father and an even prouder Grandad. He simply adored his grandson, Benny, whom he felt excelled beyond his 3 years.
Rob always had a lengthy story to tell, whether you wanted to listen or not. He loved to talk and was always making people laugh.
Rob is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of 54 years, his children Robin, Carmen (Brent) and grandson Benny, his sister in Scotland Sandra (Mike) & family, sister-in-law in England Margaret (Alan) & family, and many other overseas relatives.
Special thanks to Dr. Rimmer, Dr. Morris & the C.D.H. staff.
