It is with great heartache that I share the news of my husband, Rod Hansen, who passed away peacefully at home in Chemainus on October 30th at the age of 57 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Rod was raised in Crofton on Vancouver Island then moved to Nanaimo where we met as young adults. After living on the mainland in East Vancouver, North Vancouver, and Squamish, we returned to his island roots. Since his teen years, he has worked in commercial fishing, shipping and marine operations, and the pulp and paper industry.
With cherished memories of our 33 years of life together, I reflect on Rod's passionate spirit, youthful energy, and sense of humour. As a natural athlete excelling in hockey and enjoying outdoor recreation, he is well-known for being an avid sports fanatic, a keen car buff, and a classic rock music enthusiast. He is also fondly remembered for being a lively storyteller, sharing anecdotes of childhood family trips and teen adventures.
Rod is survived by his wife Cecilia, mother Jo-Anne, sister Shelley (Roland), nephews Ryan (Dayna) & Jamie (Jessica), step-nephew Spencer, step-niece Kaylin, and grand-niece Ella. He is predeceased by his father Richard, grandparents Frank & Isabel McWhinnie, Hilda McWhinnie, Aksel & Mona Hansen, and George & Edith Thomson.
Special gratitude to my mother for her helping hand and to his close friends for their support. Also, sincere thanks to BC Cancer Agency, Chemainus Medical Clinic, Ladysmith Home Care Nursing, and Evergreen Cremation Centre. A private gathering will be held at a later date.
So dearly missed, so dearly loved.
Gone too soon, may you Rest in Peace.
