Lamont, Roger Elwood, born on Sept. 11, 1942 in a Sydenham Twp. farmhouse in Ontario, passed away in Duncan, B.C. on April 7th, 2021.
Roger earned a diploma from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph in 1963, and worked in Japan in 1964. In 1967 he went to Sarawak, East Malaysia with the Canadian volunteer group CUSO for 2½ years, working on an agricultural research station. In Malaysia he met Patricia Lindgren of Biggar, Sask, a CUSO volunteer with the medical dept. and they were married in Oct. 1971.
In Ontario, Roger was active in several agricultural and community groups. After a lifetime of farming near Owen Sound and raising beef cattle for 34 years, Roger and Patricia followed their sons, Daryl and Eric, to the mild climate of Vancouver Island in 2006.
Roger soon became involved in local organizations. He was a driver for several years for the Cancer Society, was a kitchen volunteer for the Cowichan Valley Seniors Club, was active in Duncan United Church, the Stamp Club, the Cowichan Valley Museum, helped with the Fall Exhibition, and was a tractor driver for Providence Farm's Halloween ride and other events.
Roger is survived by his wife Patricia, sons Daryl of Duncan and Eric of Victoria, and two sisters, Merle Fedirchuk and Marjorie Devine, both of Toronto.
