In loving memory ~
It is our regret to inform you that Sonja Mohan (Boyd) passed away Saturday, March 11th, at the age of 91 surrounded by her family. Those who knew Sonja recognized her as a talented, multi-instrumentalist whose passion for music followed her everywhere she went. Sonja was a lifelong student of music, but also an avid learner with a love of knowledge and politics.
Born in Langley on May 12th, 1931, to Haakon and Margit Westwick. She moved to Caycuse Camp where she lived until moving to Honeymoon Bay to attend Lake Cowichan Secondary. She lived on the lake in Honeymoon Bay until she settled in Campbell River in 1991 and finally in Nanaimo.
Sonja was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her son Neil, husbands Glenn Boyd and Denny Mohan, and grandson Grant. Sonja is survived by her children Louise Randell (Don), Gail Calder (Terry), Dawn Schwitz (Ed), Stephen Boyd, & Glenda Boyd, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
As the matriarch of a large family, Sonja spent her years surrounded by family and friends who passed down her Norwegian traditions. She had a great sense of humour, high spirits, and enjoyed a silly laugh. Sonja will be remembered as a kind and generous person who always welcomed an extra guest at the table.
She will be missed greatly by all.
